Stellate Ganglion and Lumbar Sympathetic Blocks
Stellate Ganglion and Lumbar Sympathetic Blocks are also an effective therapy for RSD that does not resolve with medication alone. Stellate Ganglion and Lumbar Sympathetic Blocks interrupt the pain as it travels along the nerve. These minimally invasive procedures require fluoroscopic guidance for accurate placement of the nerve block, which is delivered by a needle.
A Stellate Ganglion Block is placed in the neck when the pain emanates from the arms, If the leg is affected the block is placed at the level of the lumbar spine (lower back). In certain cases a series of nerve blocks may be required to reduce a patient’s pain level by “breaking the pain cycle.”
