Radio Frequency Lesioning

Radio Frequency Lesioning is a minimally invasive procedure that uses specialized equipment to interrupt nerve conduction on a semi-permanent basis.

The radio frequency procedure is performed under local anesthetic. It is important that you be awake and aware since part of the procedure requires your feedback. Using x-ray guidance, Dr. Linehan places a needle in the correct position, then supplies a small radiofrequency current to stop the nerve from signaling.

The degree of pain relief varies among patients. While the maximum level of pain relief may not occur for three weeks or more, you can eventually expect 50 percent or greater pain relief. This relief typically lasts six to 24 months or even longer. Since nerves repair themselves, the pain may return and potentially require repeat treatment.
